Swype is text entry for computer displays be it mobile or other. This was introduced at Techcrunch 50 and it looks like a game changer unless you look closely. I love technology like this because it brings me back to the days of graffiti on the Palm and the alternative methods introduced around that time. This swyping technique is not new though. Will it catch on now that the popularity of the iPhone opens the possibility for greater adoption. Here are some examples of these alternate text entry input software in the meantime.
There are many types of software applications that help you manage your to dos and appointments outside of your default iPhone programs. Some of them are web based programs like Remember the Milk. If you have a program such as this and you want an alarm for those RTM events on your iPhone what is one to do? The internal alarms are reserved for the ones created from your calendar or alarm clock and as far as I know those programs do not have access to them. Out of sight out of mind and an alarm can do no harm. Sometimes an alert or alarm is the only thing that brings items like this into view. Read the rest of this entry »
There is, in my opinion, an underground community in most blogs. There are people who participate through comments who contribute to everyone. One commenter may really connect with another commenter. However, the blog format is more focused for one way communication. How can people interested in the information a blog covers connect with each other?
Well, I have created a social network off the Ning Platform for this blog. You can get to know the other people who frequent this blog or not. Joining does not obligate you to interact. You can create your own profile page with pictures, video, or blog. I believe this will help to accelerate the collective wisdom of this audience. It is simple to join. Heck, after some time there I am sure there will be some of you who would be perfect as a guest contributor to this blog. The Ning Platform is very flexible and I am sure everyone can find their own place there. Just click on the badge to your right. Over the course of this blog there have been approximately 800 downloads of the template so I am sure there is a lot of you out there with something to share even if it’s just your web site or blog. Simply sign up and I’ll review & approve your membership. If you have any questions feel free to leave a comment.
I fell in love with a woman named Sandy. If you get to know her I think you too will want Sandy in your life too. “I Want Sandy” is the personalizing of an email AI that understands commands/instructions sent to her by text. I find this more interactive than Reqall because Sandy will communicate reminders back to you by email or text message.
Over the weekend, Sandy asked me if I could create an iPhone App for her because she wants to be as popular as Miley Cyrus. I couldn’t resist. This iPhone Web app assists you in sending commands to Sandy by email by helping you to avoid entering repetitive text. Just go to I Want Sandy.com is the official web site.
Stay tuned. Articles coming in 2009. Just kidding. No company or blog in their right mind would wait till 2009 before releasing new stuff. :-). Coming soon Bonsai and Zoho. Bonzoho!
Please be aware this is purely proof of concept and not an actual product from Styletap. It is running on an ipod touch and could just turn the handheld world upside down.
Here is the demo showing how to manage your GTD Bonsai Template online. There is more to come. I will soon be distributing the instructions on how this is done. All done through a simple hotsync. Visit my GTD Bonsai Tab to join and be kept up to date on the newest and latest developments.
Palm’s unique strength can’t be beat. You will always find the 2 sides of debate when it comes to paper vs digital. It will probably remain so for years to come. However, there is not much talk when it comes to stylus capable and finger focused touch screens. It is almost like it has become really easy to marginalize the sheer genius of having a digital device that can mirror pen & paper. One thing that is for sure is that the iPhone is not designed for the stylus and therefore more adamantly distances itself from those who lean towards pen & paper. People who use a Palm and a program like Diddlebug don’t have to end their natural use of a pen like device. I think I can very confidently say that anyone who uses an iPhone still uses pen or pencil for something and would not substitute that for using their fingers. If Palm doesn’t do away with graffiti and adds touch screen to the mix they may very well appeal to a broader audience than those who have to deal with devices that eliminate the natural feeling of a writing utensil altogether.
This one is for the audio recording palms out there or those like the TX that can be modded to do so. Simple interface date and time stamped audio memos. What is really great about this program is that it records directly to an SD card. In fact, I recommend that method over on board recording as I have heard that is not as reliable. Among the features are 1 touch recording, adjustable sample rate, and 5 way navigation support. This will make a good instant on capture tool if you like this form of collection. Pick it up at this developer’s blog Click here. It is also free! Enjoy!
