Here is a nice intuitive little program I found on the site for NS Basic (a palm development platform). It was one of the apps featured to show you what is possible using it as a development environment. I really like it. Anything that put any kind of alphabet structure on the Palm is good in my book. It fills a missing gap in my opinion when it comes to searching on the Palm. I absolutely adore the Quick look up feature in Contacts. This program as you can see allows you to organize all your memos through alpha tabs. Scroll through or tap a letter and all memos whose title start with that letter are listed right there for you. Better than graffiti look up, palm find or sometimes even categories. Now if only someone could duplicate Palm’s Quick Look Up feature in their application. If you don’t know what I am taking about check out my comparison blog post between it and the iPhone’s interface. Click here to find out about File Drawer

This product has not been released yet, even though this video was done in 2006. I called several different departments at Nuance to actually get somebody who knew about this. They told me that they are still working on it to make sure that when it is released it is ready for prime time. This would be a huge breakthrough in entering text into mobile devices by bypassing keyboards and touch screens. Also, notice that the device used in the video is a Treo.

Almost all you need to know about this program is easily grasped by taking a gander at the screenshot to my left. This is a digital ink application on steroids. This is the kind of software no one would naturally come up with because this kind of writing happens in an alternate dimension but it makes sense for devices with conservative screen real estate. This is also the kind of program you don’t find for free but I figure to encourage the average Diddlebug user to tap the stylus to the touchscreen and test the ballpoint, a zero dollar incentive will get the average Joe talking the red pill and experience non-linear writing. pNotes also adds this twist to alarms by letting you set alarms to certain sections of text - trippy. The limitations of the free version keeps you relying on internal memory for your notes. Check out the videos and then take the red pill if you dare.
If you own a TX today’s posting will be something to both surprise and delight. It almost totally revolutionizes your Palm and makes the TX even more Iphone-like. I usually say one of the best things about a free program is the fact that it’s free but in this case it may be the program itself. I saw this on Palmaddict so forgive me if you have seen this one before. The program just came out about a week ago, so this is a relatively new offering. What is it? The best way I can think to describe it is by saying to you “Do you know those full screen pda devices with a slider keyboard?” Well, imagine that instead of a slider there was a virtual keyboard on the screen and you’d have a pretty good idea of what the ThumbboardDA does. I have used it and it is simply awesome and oh yes free. I even have an authentic Zire 72 picture after the “more” link. The product screenshot does not do it justice as it looks all scrunched up and you don’t get a sense of what is possible in landscape mode.

Diddlebug is one of the best freeware apps for Palm ever. Yes, I concur with Chris the Greenman who commented about it here. I also got his suggestion to focus more on the productivity and less on the filler news items. His audio comment regarding this is in my community section. I thought to myself what a wonderful combination since he has already assisted in providing a perfect candidate for a productivity post. Diddlebug serves as a digital notepad in that you can use your stylus to write quick notes using digital ink. You can even set alarms for them which makes this very flexible in the many different ways you can use it. You can use it as a cooking timer, appointment reminder, contact info collector, or anything you would use a notepad for. The alarms can be countdown, repeat, or specific. Diddlebug makes a perfect collection bucket.

I first heard about this app in an article over at Palmaddict.com. Someone thought this little gem should be garnering more attention for its revolutionary take on text entry. You won’t find this on Palmgear and that may be one of the reasons some of you have not heard about it. This program kicks butt. It is unlike anything you’ve seen before. This app competes with the big boys. What do I mean by that? I mean this program will enable you to enter text on your Palm equal to or faster than you currently do with your keyboard. This program is nothing to sneeze at. It does it’s job and does it well. How does it work?
