Bonsai GTD System. Click here and Scroll down

Monday, February 18, 2008Bonsai, GTD

Update: 8/21/2007-No Desktop! No Problem! PDB Version now available for Palm Only Users. Just request it.

Bonsai Palm OutlinerBonsai is a Palm program by a company called Natara. You can find it at Palmgear.com and download a free trial. Bonsai is what you would call an outliner program. An outliner displays information in a tree-view or explorer-view like interface. There are a few really good ones out there for the Palm but I happen to think Bonsai is the best. Do not underestimate their power as I have taken the time to read manuals for programs like this that can reach over 150 pages. I’ve researched quite a few outliners & you need not look further than Bonsai if you use a Palm.

What I will do here is “outline” a way to implement GTD (Getting Things Done) using Bonsai. This is what I believe to be an almost flawless implementation that with upgrades to its features that I’ve already made to the Natara Forums will take it to a whole other level beyond what already is an amazing resource.

This is the start screen on the desktop. Peaceful in its simplicity yet it holds all of your Next Actions, Calendar Events, Project Actions, Ticker file, and Someday/Maybe items. In fact, all your contexts are created without using Categories, Filters, or even Keywords. This now means that you have the freedom to use them in other ways to customize your outline to your liking. You are not limited to 16 categories, hard to access keywords, or complex filters that are difficult to create. How is this even possible? This is all now possible because of a little feature suggestion of mine that got implemented that allowed for Zooming in & out on the 5 way navigator.

The “context parents” which before would have cluttered your list are no longer an issue when you Zoom into them. This frees you from a 16 category limit because you can create as many 2nd level “context parents” as you want. This also frees you from dialogue boxes you’d encounter with filters and keywords. This system allows for quick one handed operation on the palm when you’re navigating using the 5 way.

Filters can now be powerfully used to augment the added Calendar heading. If you can keep your actions and events together, why not do so? Viewing your list using flat list filters and zooms makes adding more headings and items a non issue. You can see I leverage time in my use of filters.

How do I handle someday/maybe items? Very simply by using the start date attribute. I can set the start date for a someday / maybe item for 6 months from now. Six months later it will show up in a either a this week or next week filter. However, just like in the previous picture I can create headings to group items and yet all headings disappear when the list is filtered. How about alarms and the fact they are missing in Bonsai? I simply link out to date book and set the alarm there for only the current week. If I use “Back to Bonsai” I can easily jump back and forth.

How are project actions managed? How can this system be used to track projects and their actions that can come from multiple contexts? Well, I have a project myself and that project involves this very blog. Beyond what I have written here I have written a full description of this system with all the specifics inside a Bonsai Outline. You can import it into your Bonsai Desktop and then synchronize your palm and have an actual template to create from. It’s free and all I ask is that you leave a comment. I’ll send you the outline by email. Your email is not used in the comments at all and remains private. I will also add you to my weekly (once a week email) newsletter which you can unsubscribe from at any time. If you would not like to be on the newsletter just send me a reply email telling me so when I send you the outline.

Your participation will help to create a lively interaction and sharing of ideas. Leaving a comment will allow me to update you on my blog as well as send you this Bonsai Outline Template. If you use the Natara Forums you will know me by my Username Fox Mulder as someone who contributes to the community and not some spammer. I participated there for 3 months before I started this blog. You will even find my site listed on the Bonsai Page at Natara.com

If you’d like the outline just leave a comment. I’ll assume you want it. If you only want to leave a comment then let me know not to send the outline and I won’t. Also, If you don’t already own Bonsai download a trial and check it out. You will be then be able to use it to see my full description of the implementation. The best way to view the outline is using Bonsai Desktop. I’ve included a video so you can understand why I have “Parent Contexts.” It is the Zoom Feature that makes it sing on the Palm

PS - Even though I have not responded to each and every comment doesn’t mean I have not been sending out the templates. If for some reason you did not get one due to an oversight just email me another comment telling me this. Thank you.

Update June 6, 2007 In the video I mentioned a product called one key I meant Okey. Click here for my blog post on it. You’ll also find the link to the download link from the Palm Freeware site where you won’t need to submit an email to download.

Hey Fox Mulder, I’m known as plaid on the natara forums. Thanks for posting this info on Bonsai. I’m always eager to learn better uses of such an amazing app. I’d love to get your Bonsai template outline. I’m really curious to try using Bonsai for my calendar items as well. Thanks again!

  2. Aaron

Fox, I’m interested in checking out your GTD template. I like how you’ve implemented a flexible structure without relying on the use of categories and keywords. Please send me a copy. Thanks!

  3. Keith Collyer

I followed your original series on the Natara forums and I would be interested. I have been using LifeBalance to manage my GtD stuff, but am always open to new ideas, so I would be interested in your outline.

    thanks

  4. emkay

I’ve seen your ideas on Natara’s forum, and would be very interested in learning more. I’ve had Bonsai since the first release, but bet I don’t use it nearly as well as I could. ANd I’ve got a TX to play with now!

Would you send me a copy please?

  5. Mary

    GREAT STUFF!!!

I’d love a copy of your template as well, if possible. Thanks for sharing you great work and ideas….

  6. Dave Hartmeier

I’d be interested in the GTD template. I’m anxious to see how you handle the project tasks. I like your “keep it simple” approach. Thanks.

  7. Pakodaram

Good job explaining your setup. Pl send me your template.

    Thanks

  8. Venki

Vow! I have been looking out for this for a long time at the Natara forum and found the implementation by Stuart. Still something was missing from the implementation. I would love to see the template that you have created. Thanks for sharing with us.

  9. Don

Interesting implementation, may cause me to dust off Bonsai for GTD use. I used to use it for that, but it got too complex, so I am currently trying other GTD implementations (AcroWiki and NoteStudio)

  10. Jim M

I have tried a couple of Bonsai implementations too… and just made it too complex - just the way you commented in your note. I have a need to enter things FAST… and I always over engineer… so I am very interested in your solution. I hope you would be willing to send me your approach…. I don’t use a palm… I have Bonsai on the desktop..

  11. Fox

No need to fear with this implementation those of you who have tried this and that. You should know pretty quickly if this works or not without investing too much time.

Thank you for your encouraging words. It’s good to know countless hours of tweaking can actually wind up making a difference. If your post doesn’t show up right away don’t worry. They are being approved by me so I can filter out possible spam.

  12. voytek

Thanks for sharing your template, aha, so you’re the culprit of “I also write the blog called
Palmisdead.com (a sad chronicling of Palm’s missteps).” yes, sad case that, unfortunately, sadly,
    I have to agree….

    thanks again
    Voytek

  13. Lawrence Walker

Fox, I am interested in your Bonsai template. You won me over with your claim for uncluttered lists. My implementation uses categories and keywords.

    Lawrence

  14. David Glidden

Also interested in receiving your GTD template for Bonsai. I have worked intermittently with Bonsai for a couple years; anxiously to see if your template will help me use this tool more effectively.

  15. Brass

Please allow me a copy of your Bonsai template.

  16. Mark Dickens

This sounds great. Everything inside Bonsai. I want to know more!

  17. David Carrington

I was going to write “me too” for your intriguing template, but I see that I am too late. I’m writing “me fourteen” but even that may be too optimistic!

    Thank you
    Davec

  18. John Burns

I have used Bonsai for quite some time now and especially like the desktop version. Please send me a copy of your template for evaluation. The ideas you present in your blog have encouraged me to give Bonsai another chance at GTD.
    Thanks,
    John

  19. Glenn

I use Natara’s DayNotez and am impressed with their product.

Please forward the template for Bonsai; I would like to give it a try.

  20. Drew Herndon

I have followed your GTD outlines on the Bonsai forums. As with the GOVCO, I am watching! Thanks for this implementation. I would like to see more. Please send me the template.

    Thanks!

    Drew

  21. Fox

I too am impressed with their product and it is on the foundation of the work that the developers did that I am able to do all this. I have a surprise for all you fearless commentators that builds on what this template makes possible. Exciting times are ahead.

I expect to be sending you a quick newsletter soon with these developments. If you find this system useful you undoubtedly be pleasantly surprised with what is next. Also, you have complete freedom to simply use the template and nothing else. I honor and respect willingness to not participate as well as participate. Stay tuned.

Thanks again for your trust and enthusiasm. You all have already made this whole endeavour a big success.

  22. James Hundley

Your outline interests me. I have been using Bonsai for several years now

  23. George W. Jones

Would love a copy of your system template. It sounds very simple and easy to use.

  24. Anne O

I keep coming back to Bonsai as the best way to outline my life. I’ve tried Stuart’s postings as a jump-off point, but never got to the full implementation.
I would rather tweak indefinitely than finish implementing a system, so please send me the outline ASAP so I can FINISH my tool-gathering and start processing!
    TYVM.

  25. Scott_R

I’ve used Bonsai and Datebk5/6 as my GTD system for 3 or 4 years. I’ve never tied the two together well. So, your implementation caught my interest, especially using the zoom feature in Bonsai. Please send me a copy of your template. Thank you for sharing your work.

  26. Truth

Fox, Thanks for developing a “simple” GTD-Bonsai outline. Can I get a copy of your template, too? Thanks!

  27. Duane Dalian

I am in the process of evaluating the trial copy of Bonsai and I like what I have seen so far. Your approach to incorporating Bonsai into the GTD system sounds almost to good to be true. I would very much appreciate a copy of your template. The simpler the system, the more likely it is going to be used. Thank you in advance.

  28. DebJean

I’ve been looking for a simpler GTD implementation using Bonsai - I would appreciate copy of your template. Thank you for sharing.

  29. Dallas

I’d be interested in taking a look at your template for Bonsai outliner- previously I have used both Datebk 6 and agendus- I have owned Bonsai for several years (along with thoughtmanager) but haven’t figured out how to use them effectively- Thanks

  30. Leti Labell

I’ve been using Bonsai for GTD for some time now, using categories and keywords and filters. I don’t find it to be difficult nor cumbersome, but I would be interested in seeing a different perspective. Thanks.

  31. Steve21

Fairly new to GTD but not palm desktop, I’m looking at Lifebalance at the moment but isn’t really what I want, if you can send my a copy of the template this would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

  32. Darrin

Finally someone has shown us the way. I’ve used Agendus and tried to get into Bonsai, this will help me. Please send me the outline as well. Thanks.

  33. DJR

Your template looks very interesting. I would appreciate if you would please forward me a copy. Thanks.

  34. Scott Evans

Hello Fox, I am definitely interested in your outline for Bonsai. Please send to my email above and I’ll give it a test run. I’ve been using Bonsai for 4 years and am Now just really implementing GTD with outlook.
    Thanks, Scott

  35. Adachim

I recently went back to paper and pencil (really) for GTD, after trying outliners, NoteStudio and MemoLeaf. Maybe I should take another shot. Could you please send me your template? Thanks!!

  36. richard bischoff

I would also like the template. Thanks so much.

    Richard

  37. Fox

Thank you all for contributions and kind words. I have personally responded to each and every one of you and will continue to do so while the traffic is manageable. I honor not just your contribution to my blog but the future of productivity you aspire to in your interest in GTD, Palm and Bonsai as a platform. (I will also profile some other cool software besides Bonsai)

I have heard favorable things from the Natara Staff and hope to return your good will with quality content and members only inside stuff. It has always been my dream to be a community leader and your participation is making that dream a reality and that inspires me to serve you in this capacity with integrity, honor, and just plain fun. Since this blog has started there hasn’t been a day I have not received at least 1 comment. Keep it coming and recommend your GTD friends.

I am currently working on a Newsleter format for you guys that will keep you informed and give you complete freedom to opt out at anytime if you find me tiresome. Also an email subscriber form is coming up so you won’t have to deal with RSS if you don’t want to.

    Best to you

    Fox

P.S. Scully emailed to say hi

  38. George

    Please send the template. Thanks.

  39. David Carrel

Thanks for all this effort. I have used Bonsai for a while but only recently have I started doing GTD. I implemented Stuart’s basic GTD system and tweaked it for myself. It is working well, however, it is a bit cumbersome. Please send me your template. I’m hoping this will be a bit leaner, yet equally powerful.

    Thanks

    Dave

  40. DEWILL90

Please send me a copy of your Bonsai GTD template.

    Thank you!

  41. Ron Pemberton

Please send me the template. I think you write very good tutorials and I am looking forward to more in the future. Thanks!

  42. James

    Hi Fox,

I would also like to try your template. I have been using Bonsai for my GTD for a while, but find it too complex.

I would be interested to know how you change a NA into anther one (when the first is complete) - it seems that you would have to actually move it through the hierachy to it’s new location (as opposed to simply changing it’s category without moving it)?

    Regards,
    James.

  43. Steve in Mexico

Looks interesting. I’ve been reluctant to drop LifeBalance for Bonsai so far, but I’t like to take a closer look at the template you’ve made up.

    Saludos,
    Steve in Mexico

  44. Bill

Sounds great, I look forward to trying it.

  45. Ambrosia

I’m trying to work GTD with palm but having problems with contexts etc. I use Bonsai andlike the sound of your implementation. Please send me a copy.

  46. Susan

I really like the simplicity of your idea. After reading Getting Things Done, I tried implementing the ideas using Bonsai, but I never could make it work for me–it simply got too cumbersome. I love Bonsai, but I’m sure I’m not using it to its full capabilities.

  47. Mark

I tried using Bonsai and got part way there. I like the simplicity of your approach - I’d also forgotten about the integration with Datebook. I’d be grateful if you’d send me a copy of the template.

  48. Barry

Please send me a copy of your Bonsai GTD template.

    Thank you,

    Barry

  49. byron church

    dare i ask….. template ? Thanks for sharing !

  50. Jorge

I am very impressed with the implementation of GTD. I have tried to use NoteStudio for GTD but its too complex. Please send me a copy of the template.

    Thanks,

    Jorge

  51. Barry Conway

looks like the solution. I have been trying to use Bonsai effectively but aimlessly. Please send a copy of your template
    Barry Conway

  52. cgbeam

I’m a new Bonsai user and would enjoy seeing your GTD template.

  53. K

I would like to have a copy of your Bonsai template. Thank you.

  54. Larry

Just got a Treo, replacing my T5. Have been using MLO but synching is too complicated. Please send me a copy of your Bonsai GTD template.

    Thank you,

    Larry

  55. erik

Interesting. I had Bonsai before I started GTD’ing and had never thought of this sort of implementation. I will have to give it a try.

right now, I use http://www.socialtext.com. On the PC, it’s a robust wkik. What I really really like, though, is that it’s also en editable wiki on my Treo.

  56. Geir

Been using Bonsai for a while, but not for GTD. Please send me a copy of your template.
    Thank you.

  57. Jim Altman

I have unsuccessfully used Shadowplan in an attempt to implement a workable GTD system. Please send me your GTD Bonsai template; I would love to try your implementation. I am currently using Bonsai, but only as an outline/organizer.

    Thanks,
    Jim

  58. Phil Clark

Fox, thanks for sharing this with the bonsai/palm community.

I am an Agendus/Bonsai LifeDrive user and have spent too long trying to find an ideal GTD implementation with these tools. I like your lateral thinking breaking with the traditional use of categories, keywords and filters.

Please can you send me a copy of the template.

I look forward to contributing more feedback.

    Thanks

    Phil

  59. Dimitri

I visited all the sites listed in the GTD Wiki and Bonsai was the only one that seems to allow one to take advantage of the both the desktop and the Palm synching feature. I was idscouraged about setting it up as other apps such as My Life Organized provide templates and detailed tutorials from newbies to GTD like me. Then I discovered this blog, it seems you have done for them what the developers should have done in the first place! I’d be grateful for your template, and I hope you will provide a full tutorial on how best to take advantage of its power….

    Thanks,

    Dimitri

  60. Brian

I would very much like to see your GTD template. I’ve tried paper, text files, outlook, brainforest, and bonsai. It’s very hard to get an interface that works easily and quickly on the palm. I can’t wait to see yours. Thanks.

  61. David Ellis

This looks intriguing. I am interested in getting the template.

    Thanks for making this available.

    Dave

  62. Alex

    Hi Fox,

just starting to get to grips with GTD after many years trying other approaches to productivity and I’m also trialling Bonsai so a copy of your outline could provide much needed guidance. I’m always happy to give feedback so please send me a copy of the outline.

    Thanks in advance,
    Alex.

  63. Vivian

    Fox,

What you have done looks very interesting. I too am interested in seeing your setup without categories and keywords.

    Thanks!

  64. Furball

This is quite an interesting system, but somehow I haven’t really “trusted” Bonsai for my critical data… I must’ve lost some data some time ago. How, I can’t remember.

But I’m willing to give it another try. Please send me your template too.

    Thanks and regards.

  65. Fox

Dimitri, thank you for your kind words. Your email got returned so the next action is for you to send me one that will get this template to you.

    Either post again or subscribe.

    Thank you.

  66. Dan Pritchett

I would be interested in seeing your application of Bonsai - have read the Bonsai forums and making progress toward GTD!

    djp

  67. ThatMikeGuy

I stumbled on my first attempt to use GTD with Bonzai. With your template and this process, I now want to give it another try. Please send me a copy. Thanks for making all of this publicly available.

  68. Kevin Hatch

    Hi Fox,

Great work. I’ve extensively experimented with GTD using LifeBalance, Shadow and now Bonsai. I find your simplified approach both liberating and refreshing. I think I could actually “trust” this for GTD - at least more so than the quasi-systme I’ve hacked together at this point. Would love to experiment with you template.

    Keep up the great work.

  69. otto

I like the ideas you have posted so far. Please send me a copy of your template. I have a TX and have been trying to find the most useful way to quickly use the GTD system. which I have been using now for about a year in various ways. I appreciate the post and look forward to trying out your template.

    cheers!

  70. Joe

Very interesting work… I’m new to GTD, and having attempted to set something up in Bonsai, I’d love to give your template a go.

  71. Mattias J

Hello, i have used the system suggested by David Allen using outlook for two years now. Works fine.

However i do my project planning in Bonsai and the prospect of moving the whole system there is somewhat tempting .

Please send outline and i’ll take a look.

  72. Matt

Thanks for the post - I’d love to see your template. I recently purchased Bonsai & haven’t found the right structure for GTD yet.

    TIA - Matt

  73. Calvin Cummings

    Hi Fox Mulder,

You’re a genius and a very generous soul! I’d love a copy of your GTD template as well, please….pretty please! :-)
    Calvin

  74. Al

Am trying to decide if I should now use outlook as my GTD platform or my palm TX. Have never had good luck with the outlook conduits on my IIIx so didnt even bother synching when got a new job but really would like to use the TX more effectively. Does Bonzai sync well? have you compared to shadow plan?
Please send your template and I will trail along with the bonzai trial
    Thanks

  75. Rich

Your Outline looks very interesting! just what I’ve been looking for to implement GTD on my Palm. Can you send to me please?
    Rich

  76. mls

I’ve waffled between Outlook and Bonsai for a while. I’d like to try your Bonsai template if you’d email it to me. Thanks.

  77. Barry

A simple but comprehensive looking approach; do you need to go searching for things that are mis-filtered because of input errors often?

That’s what usually gets me when usuing filters.

However, I would like to try your template. Thanks for your efforts.

  78. Kevin

I’ve also tried many GTD implementations with Bonsai - all of them were too complex. I’d love to try this one out.

  79. Thomas

    Hi Fox,
great idea, I think this could be the way to get GTD working for me on my treo !
    Please send me your teplate!

    Thanks a lot

  80. Beth Sokol

Please send me the GTD template. I am extremely interested as I just downloaded the Bonsai trial and have been reading GTD. You’re ideas are fantastic! Thank you!

  81. Stéphane

Sounds interesting. I’ve been GTDing on Bonsai for about a year now, but I’m not really proud of the way I have organised my actions so far. I’m hoping to get a new perspective here.

  82. Mike

I would be very interested in having a copy of your Outline. Many thanks!

  83. Kevin A.

I just switched from Note Studio to Bonsai and found it much easier to follow when managing several projects at the same time. I’ve been experimenting my GTD methodology using Bonsai for a week and would love to get more ideas. Thanks for sharing, man.

  84. Kathy

I would love to get a copy of your template, please!

    Thanks, in advance!

  85. Bob

Looks very interesting. Looking ofrward to trying this. Please send ASAP. TIA

  86. Norman Gavin

Would like a copy of the gtd template as well. thanks.

  87. David

Hi Fox.. I’ve got a relatively complete GTD implementation in Bonsai as well, and I’d love a chance to see how your approach works. I can certainly appreciate the idea that simpler is better!

    Thanks..

  88. David

This looks promising. Please send me your template.
I’m currently using memoleaf but have started toying with outliners. Thanks for your work.

  89. Scott

Just starting to play around with Bonsai. Please send me your template. Thanks.

  90. Tony

I too would like a copy of your template please. Thanks in advance. Regards, Tony.

  91. Simon

Fox, I’ve been using GTD on my Palm quite successfully but then, my Palm crashed and I had to reload everything. All my icons ended up different to how they were before and well, I just sort of lost interest. A new, simpler system could be just what I need to get me GTDing again.
    Simon
    London, UK

  92. Terri H

Wow, what a great concept! I can’t tell you how many outlines I have started and abandoned because I just couldn’t make it simple enough for me to follow. I still use Bonsai for checklists but am currently “analog” with actions, which is cumbersome and time-consuming. I’d love to try your system so please email to me at your convenience.

  93. Altaf

This looks quite interesting as I’m just starting to define the tools to implement GTD into my task management workflow. Please send me the template and I’ll provide feedback.

  94. BlueLineFive

Google’ing all over the web to find a tool set with a good prospect of longevity using hardware I already have to bolt to my hip as I implement the GTD system has led to this door. Would very much appreciate the template AND wold also be very interested in what interest we might present to Natara to motivate them to develop a Bonsai Mac OS X desktop application and Palm syncing solution. Not interested in starting a PC OS flame war — people make choices for good reason, I just happen to enjoy the Palm and OS X platform while having to use Windows in the work environment. So to be fully engaged in the GTD methodology, I need tools that span all these platforms. Rally ho!

  95. Bassman

Looks superb - been using NoteStudio for a while but the GTD implementation is a little cumbersome and user intensive, so hoping this might help!

Thanks for your efforts in developing, and willingness to share - please send me a copy!

  96. Steve

Just got the GTD book. Using DayNotez and just got Bonsai and Slap to attempt some integration. Looking forward to the template. Thanks

  97. Bernard Vander Beken

Looking forward to evaluating your template.

  98. Lizz

Count me amount the fascinated by your template. I struggled with Life Balance, and while I found Bonsai far more to my liking, I haven’t put it to good use. This could be just the thing. I would appreciate the use of your template, if you’ll kindly email at your convenience!

  99. IC

Interested in the template. I’ve been using Bonsai, but I would like to simplify my system and am very interested in how to use the GTD approach.

  100. Leonid

Please include me too, this sounds very interesting. I am looking forward trying to get my Bonsai outline in order.

  101. Paul

It would be great if you could me send your template, too.
    Thank you.

  102. Dwight Carr

I am looking forward to evaluating your template.

    Thanks,
    Dwight…

  103. Eric

Looks good! I’d like to look at your template.

    Thanks,

    Eric

  104. Rod

Thanks for all of your hard work integrating GTD and Bonsai. I look forward to using your template.

    -Rod

  105. Chris

Looks like some very good word. This has opened by eyes to the power of Bonsai. I look forward to trying it out. I’m working through the Bonsai manual right now.

  106. Art

Thanks for your hard work. I’m looking forward to trying out your template.

  107. Richard Kornbluth

I have been using Bonsai as an outliner for several years and have recently been introduced to the principles of GTD. I am seriously interested in implementing the GTD system and your Bonsai outline seems to be a simple effective way to manage it. I am very interested in receiving acopy if it

  108. Saif

I’d like to try out your outline…I’m new to GTD but I’d like to learn from experience.

  109. Chris

Thanks Fox for the creative approach to using Bonsai and sharing it. I’ve printed out you posts on the Bonsai forum and made an attempt at your system. I hope getting your template will help in implementing GTD with the ease you speak of. I’m ready for it!

  110. Stefan

I’m new to GTD, but use Bonsai for a long time. I would like to try out your template.

  111. Michael

I’d like to take a look at your Bonsai Outline for GTD. I like Bonsai, but always run into an issue that the outlines are disconnected from Outlook where so much of the communication about projects is handled. Any thoughts on the disconnect between Bonsai and Outlook? I’d love an add-in that let me create a Bonsai item from a email (like ClearContext or the official GTD add-in).

  112. David Anderson

Would love to give the outline a try.

  113. Fox

Michael, I know what you mean. There are some who think outlook is evil and some who think of it as a necessary evil. I have been asked about it before and will probably still be asked about it again because it is so widespread.

It is something I will take a look at but there doesn’t seem to be a lot of interest on the development side over at Natara for this so it would need to be some kind of work around, unfortunately.

I’ll see what I can come up with.

  114. smorky

Thank you for that GTD-implementation. I’d like to get your template. It seems to be the easiest way to use GTD on a Palm as far as I know. Good work!

  115. Alessandro Melchiorre

    Thanks for your template
    looks very neat and clean

    please send me a copy

    Alessandro

  116. Randal

Please send me a copy of your outline. Sounds very helpful!

  117. acw

I’m finally “restarting” my GTD approach and committing to tools. I have decided on Bonsai and would love to get a copy of your template. As Michael mentioned, my biggest issues with tools has been the Outlook demon. I can’t stand it, but its the corporate standard and where all the communication and calendaring is done! Good luck on noodling a potential work around…

  118. Bob Hardin

It looks good. I am anxious to try it. Please send me a copy.

  119. Peter

I am very interested in your template as I have not really used Bonsai that much.

  120. KC

This sounds great! Just what I’ve been looking for. Can you send me a copy

  121. Mike

Please send me the template for your Bonsai GTD implementation. Like many others I have been using Bonsai for GTD, but my set-up is not as simple and flexible to truly work. Please keep up the good work.

    Mike

  122. Ed

Sounds interesting - I’d like to try out your template and see if I want to make the switch to Bonsai

  123. Paulo Stockinger

I love Bonsai and I use it for about 2 years now. For the last six months I had an increased amount of projects at work and just using Bonsai is not enough anymore. So I just started with GTD and look for tools to use it with Outlook, Bonsai and my Palm. I appreciate if you send me the template for your Bonsai GTD.

  124. Craig

I’ve just start evaluating Bonsai for use with GTD and would like a copy of your template to try. Thanks.

  125. Jim

I’m bailing on Shadow Plan after many years and would like to see your template with my new Bonsai install. Thanks.

  126. Gerald

I have been using ThoughManager for the past few years, but due to it not being updated, (even the version SplashData licensed) I am looking to switch. I use Daynotez now and really like it. I would like to see the template you have.

  127. Chuck Lamprey

I’d love a copy of your Bonsai GTD outline file as well.

    Thanks!

  128. Curt Prolix

Your offer of your GTD template for Bonsai is wonderfully generous! I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to give it a try. Thanx…

  129. LiLin

Hello, I, too would appreciate a copy of your template. I am evaluating Bonsai and SplashNotes. For now I need to track 5 major projects. Not a lot, but they involve lots of details and various committees.
    Thanks.

  130. Tom

At the moment i use shadowplan. I would like to try Bonsai with your template. Could you please send me you template?
    thank you very much!

  131. LiLin

Fox, thank you very much for your Bonsai template. I am not familiar with GTD, but your template is very intuitive. I am learning to use it with one of my projects. It appears to meet my simple needs for the time being. I plan to add more of my projects.

Now, if I can just figure out how to link tasks and to do list to Datebk6!

Thank you very much for sharing.

  132. Kevin

Hi, I’d love to have a look at your template, see if I can get rid of my paper based system.

    Cheers

  133. joro

Hi, this looks interesting, I would appreciate the template.

    Tnx

  134. BFENIX

I am looking forward to evaluating your template
Thanks (of France !) for your efforts

  135. ThatGirl

I’m new to both GTD and Bonsai and would love to have a copy of your template! Thanks for sharing - great work on all this!

  136. ADDict

Love Bonsai and GTD. Would love the template. I have add and, thus, need substantial structure in my life. I have add and, thus, get hyperfocused on meaningless minutiae (I’m just finishing my trial period with Bonsai, and i’ve already read the entire manual and made a boatload of lists with categories, icons, dates, links - more productivity like this and i’ll be out a job)
Is the template set up so that completed tasks will be filtered, or do you have to cut and paste to a separate “completed” heading?
    thanks for your work.
    peace,

  137. Gregory Nichols

Hi, I’ve used Bonsai for GTD in the past. I’m always looking for new/better methods. I look forward to trying your templete.

    Thanks,
    Greg

  138. Asis

Simplicity allows extra complexity. Not sure Bonsai will do what I want, but perhaps it will w/ your suggestions. Appreciate the sharing as it saves re-inventing the wheel. I’ll be glad to share my observations, should they appear to be different than what there is plenty of. Thanks.

  139. Ry

Would love a copy of your GTD template for Bonsai! Nice blog, will be back.

    Ry

  140. troy

i’m new to gtd and bonsai, and would like to try your template. Thanks!

  141. Sundarlal Chuddha

I like this approach. Please forward a template copy to me too.

    Thanking you kindly.

  142. Sara Harder

I would like to try Bonsai, but feel it would come a lot easier if I could have your template. Thank you

  143. iFalcon

Very interesting reading. I love a copy of the template also.

    Thanks.

  144. Trish

    Fox,
I am a lurker on GTD_Palm groups in Yahoo. I would also like to have a copy of your template. I currently use Bonsai, and I am having problems implementing GTD with it.

Thank you so much for your blogs and posts!

    Thanks

  145. David Bourbon

Great implementation. Can I get a copy of the template?

    thanks.

  146. Ron

I purchased Bonzai for GTD a few years ago and after a short while I stopped using it. I then stopped using most of the GTD model. I’m hoping your orientation and template will get me back in the game to stay.
    Thanks for sending the template.

  147. PLW

I think this blog will be a useful resource for me. I am transitioning from a very heavy paper GTD planner with over 100 projects between work and home. Any tips for managing these projects will help.

  148. jazz

I have been using Bonsai for years, and have just begun exploring GTD. Would be grateful for a copy of your template.
    Many thanks.

  149. Scot

I’m just getting started with GTD and I just purchased Bonsai to help me get there. I’m looking forward to checking out your template.

  150. YY

Hi, great job there! I am just starting out with GTD and Bonsai though I’ve been using Palm PDAs for eons. Would love a copy of your template to further enhance my system.

  151. Lee

I am new to GTD but find the concepts right in step with truly getting things done. I’ve been spending way too much time searching for an easy-to-setup, handheld compatible method of incorporating GTD into my highly mobile life. Bonsai and your template sound like my best hope. I would appreciate a copy of your template and look forward to discussing GTD, your template or your blog in general with you.

  152. Steve

Thanks for all your hard work. Looking at Shadow Plan and Bonsai and would appreciate being able to check out your template.

  153. Teresa Colonna

Please send your template for GTD & Bonsai. Thanks!

  154. Markus Wilde

    Hello Fox,
I followed your original series on the Natara forums and I would be interested. I have been using LifeBalance to manage my Calendar und Tasks, but I’m always open to new ideas, so I’m interested in your GTD outline / template. Thanks!

  155. Michael

I’ve tried using Bonsai for GTD, but managed to make it over complicated. I would love to try your template.

  156. Chris Maler

I’m down for the template too please. Thanks for finding me on 43folders

  157. Mike

Please send your template for Bonsai, thanks!

  158. dave

I’ve been an avid ShadowPlan user for some time but am looking to possibly make a change. No criticism really of SP except that my day to day affairs have now put me more and more in front of my computer and less in front of my handheld so I need a better desktop implementation than SP currently supports. Please send me your template - it sounds interesting and effective. Thanks!

  159. Andrew Kuharsky

Please send Bonsai Outline. I wish priorities of child items determined priorities of parents. I guess you can do this with dates, but then I may have to adjust dates frequently.

  160. Lorane

Hi - Fox - I’d like a copy of your template, please. I used to use Bonsai a year ago or so, but went back to plain vanilla. I’d like to see your setup - Thanks, Lorane

  161. Kevin Leger

Hey hows about sharing a template with a fellow GTD user! I would LOVE to try your idea out as I am blocked for setting up something for home, now that I was layed off :(

  162. takabanana

Could you send me your outline template? I’m new to Bonsai, and also to GTD - trying to find the ‘best’ way to implement GTD (or at least something like it) - preferrably on the Palm since I always have my Treo with me. On the otherhand, I wish there was some way of “keeping track” of a delegation (i.e. Knowing the status of something I delegated, automatically) in which case something like AirSet or Accomplice or ThinkingRock would work,.. but then, none of these are “portable” OR are as powerful, individually, as Bonsai….

  163. Charles

Please send me a copy of your Bonsai GTD template. THANKS!!

  164. Brian Casiello

Please sent the outline, this looks intriguing.

  165. Vince

    Hi,

This is very interesting. Have been using Palm and Bonsai for several years.

Please send me your GTD template.

    Thanks

  166. Mike

Thanks for putting your ideas out there, both in this forum and on Natara’s site. I’m really interested in seeing your template, and how I can use Bonsai better.

    Thanks.

  167. Steven Slegel

Sounds good, I would like to see your template. My GTD Bonsai outline is a mess, I need some new ideas. Thanks.

  168. Mark

    Fox:

I was thrilled to see your offer of a template for GTD. I have flirted with Bonsai in the past. And I have just re-committed to using GTD again to help with the overwhelming list of actions managing in my automotive plant.

Please send me your template. Looks to me like an elegantly simple solution that could really make my life easier, both at work and at home.

  169. Jeff

I would love to see your template. Sounds like it could be very useful.

    Thanks.

  170. Alexandre Maion

Hi Fox, I’m interested in checking out your Bonsai template for GTD. Please send me a copy. Thanks!

  171. Martin Pradny

Hi, I have been experimenting with Bonsai for a while and I’m interested to see your template that seem to be an easy a efficient GTD solution. Thank you

  172. Chris Bishop

would just love a template. Thanks. I’m a pharmacist and never have enough time.
    Chris Bishop

  173. Stephen

    Hi
I’ve been reading your posts and read GTD a few times. I haven’t yet found a good way to keep everything with me enough to actually implement it though. Hopefully this plus my Treo will work. May I please have a copy of your template?
    Thanks
    Steve

  174. Matthias

    Hi,

Can you please send me your template. It looks very interesting.

    Thanks!

    /Matthias

  175. Scotto

I’ve used a Bonsai for a few years as a pseudo-database system and even tried a system (that failed) for tracking projects. I’ve been using Agendus for a awhile, but it doesn’t really seem to apply very well to GTD principles. Everything I’ve seen so far ends up being too complex or kludgy.

The best I’ve seen on the Desktop side is MonkeyGTD, which is a variant of TiddlyWiki, but I want a sytem I can synch with my Palm, so that’s not a complete solution.

Lately I’ve resorted to just paper using a hipsterPDA 3×5 card system as described by Merlin on 43 Folders. However, after Googling around to find any good GTD Palm apps, your Blog came up and looks intriguing. since I already have Bonsai, I look forward to loading your template and giving it a go.

  176. Rudi

Hallo Fox, thank you so much for your help in getting the most out of Bonsai! I’ve registered it a couple of years ago, but until now I didn’t very well in using it effectively. So I’m very interested in your template and looking forward to it.

  177. Brian

I licensed Bonsai recently and coincidently just received GTD on CD and have started listening religiously. I was searching for a way to implement GTD principals and came across your site via the Natura site. Looking forward to getting more out of my Treo and my schedule. Kindly send me the template for GTD in Bonsai. Thank you.

  178. Jeff

Interesting approach! I’ve been using Bonsai for a while to help with my GTD, but there are some great ideas here. Can I please get a copy of the template?

    Thanks!

  179. Harry

Sounds and looks interesting, like to explore this some more, so please send me a copy.
    Thanks

  180. Uller

    Hello Fox,
I have been using Bonsai for a couple of years now (on a PC and a Palm). But still I am convinced that there are better ways using it. Your template to be one of those ways.
So yould you please send me a copy? Thank you in advance.

  181. billtaiwan

Well, I saw this recommended highly, and after reading what you have, at least I’m interested.

  182. Em

Gosh - I’ve used ShadowPlan - but find it unattractive to work with. I appreciate that this may not be important to some, but to us folk who are ‘picturesmart’ well, it helps! I’ve downloaded a trial version of Bonsai to see if this will help and would dearly love to try your GTD method. Currently I am using SP with DB6 - but it’s not great that’s for sure. Thanks so much for sharing all your experiences. Super appreciated.

  183. Larry

I just upgraded my version of Bonsai and came across your blog on using it for GTD. I’m interested in exploring this so would appreciate a copy of your template. Kudos for putting in the work to make this app more useful. Thanks

  184. Thingy Bing

    Hi,
I have been using Bonsai for a while, then looked at ThinkingRock for GTD. Check it out, you seem to be interested in exploring technology. I would be interested in your template, pls send it to me.

Also, for the password management, you may look at eWallet, I have been using that for many years, excellent app.

  185. Fox

    Hello all,

Just chiming in to let readers of these comments know I DON’T just gaze at the mounting comments exclaiming “Yes, I am the Man!” I personally email everyone with a copy of the template. I try to be quick. Most people get this within 2 hours of posting a comment.

I appreciate your comments. Keep em coming and if you are a reader or lurker maybe your next action is to make a comment. It completely qualifies under the conditions of a 2 minute rule :-)
    Fox

  186. Sophi

I’m using Stu’s template from a while back and really like the simplicity of yours (though I don’t quite understand how it works).

Could you please email a copy to me? Hope it is not palm-specific (i.e. will work on XP desktop).

    Thanks!

  187. Jeff Jackson

Just in the middle of trying to simplify and perfect my own GTD with Bonsai and DayNotez. Your template would be very much appreciated. Thanks. Jeff

  188. Jazz

Hi Fox, just read your posting #185 above. Would love a copy of your template- I posted here end of last month but haven’t received it yet…humbly requesting…grovel grovel…

  189. Fox

So sorry, Jazz. I have just emailed you.

Folks, whenever I send out this template I need to create a new email which doesn’t leave a reply flag. Usually as soon as I get an a new comment I reply right then and there. They are like bumball drops. :-) but it seems I may have missed one.

If you did not get a template yet, like Jazz, just send me your name and email to fox (the at sign) palmorganized.com

  190. nmm01

    Hi Fox -
Please send me a copy of your template. Looks very interesting!

    Thanks!

  191. daker

Fox - Please forward your template. Just getting started with GTD and was looking to integrate with my old palm T3. Your notice has me dusting off Bonsai and getting the upgrade. Thanks.

  192. Greg Andreas

    Hi,
I am very interested in your GTD template. Please send me a copy.
    Thank you and regards,
    G

  193. Chris J

I’ve been trying for years to find the perfect solution. Is this it? Send the template please!

    Thanks

  194. Frank Tagge

HELP! My desktop is overflowing — I’m starting to use GTD, and desperately need a Palm app that will make this easy! Your description has me intrigued! Just downloaded Bonsai, please send your template!

    Thanks,

    Frank

  195. Chris

I’ve been working with Bonsai and love it. I would appreciate a copy of your template to try out! Thanks in advance!

    Chris

  196. Stan

I am working on implementing GTD, and have Bonsai. Your solution seems perfect for what I’m trying to do. Please send your template.

    Regards,

    Stan

  197. Thingy Bing

So I looked at the template…I have a basic problem: how can I use Bonsai’s original feature: as an outliner. Isn’t that the goal of the whole app? I create a project and I do my work breakdown structure and I insert my todos/tasks into the lowest level. Some of them becomes a NA. If I have NAs grouped together under contexes and under one 1st level item, how can I do an outline? Do I miss something?
    Thingy

  198. Fox

You have lots of options. You can always link to another outline and use the outline structure there. I focused on this mostly as a GTD implementation and I do not intend this to be the only way to use Bonsai.

I understand some of what you say and some things I am not so clear on so I’ll email you and figure out a way we can chat about it.

  199. Tom

    Hi Fox,

I’d love to get a copy of your template. Would you please send it to me?

    Thanks,
    Tom

  200. Marc

Hmm. Looks interesting. I’m just now starting to use GTD, and this Bonsai program with your template might be a good way to start. I’ve downloaded the trial software - would you send the template when you get a chance? BTW, can your template and the Bonsai desktop work well on a USB drive installation? I love my Treo, but I would still type Action lists faster at the computers located in my various work sites. Thanks! - Marc

  201. Scott

Love the site! I just got bonsai, and would also love to have the template you have described for GTD, please send it to me too.
    Thanks!

  202. Fox

Hey Marc, sorry, currently there is no USB drive installation or support.

  203. IDispose

I have my own GTD/Bonsai implementation, but yours looks much more powerful. Please send it along!

  204. Howard

Hi, please send me your GTD templates. I love using Bonsai and it sounds like you’ve hit on something clever.
    Thanks.

  205. SuitCase

Thank you for your great work and this interesting article.

As a former fan of “The X Files” who has become an outlining and palm planning freak I am very interested in evaluating your template. I’d love to see how it works for me.

Maybe you can put sending me a copy of it onto your “less than 2 minutes task list”. :-)
    Thanks for taking your time!

  206. Olivia

I just downloaded the trial version of Bonsai. Rather than spend alot of time trying to develop my own system of GTD implementation, I would like to try your template. I have wasted more time “searching” than “doing” already and want to take advantage of your creativity. It sounds like you have put Bonsai and GTD together to make the sum greater than the parts. I am looking forward to trying your system and finally getting to work taking care of next actions.
    Thank you

  207. Teresa

I wish Bonsai had all the customizable columns that Ilium Software’s ListPro has. ListPro is very flexible. I wish Natara would take a look at it and add lots of ListPro features to Bonsai!

  208. Leo

I finally acknowledged that the way that Agendus handles my projects and tasks is a failure, so I’m wanting to try Bonsai for GTD. I’d like to try out your template.

    Thanks!

    -Leo

  209. Rod

Looking for better ways to get things done! I would like to try your template. Thank you very much for your help.

  210. Palas

    Hi:
I´m moving my GTD system from Shadowplan becouse of new features in desktop Bonsai like external links, lack of 4k limit…
so i´m trying GTD implementations in order to migrate my system
    from Shadow.
I´d like to check your template.
    Thanks

  211. Eric

I would love to try your template!

  212. harry

Simple GTD on palm with outline -yes please! Can I try your template if I may?
    hh

  213. technical1

I am a brand new Bonsai user. I would like to know if I can use Templates if I do not have the desktop feature, I only have the on-the-Palm version 4.1.2.

I am trying to get thru the docs, but the v9 of Docs to Go doesn’t seem to show the graphics, so I have to go thru it slowly on Adobe Reader on my PC.

I still don’t know how this works, completely, - yet.

    TIA,

    Eli

  214. Joe-Bob

    Please send! Thanks

  215. paparazzi

I’m trying to get to grips with GTD - I have Bonsai and would love to try your template. Could I get a copy?

    Thanks!

  216. Andrew

    Hi there,

I have just come back to Palm after some time in the PPC world. Can you pls send me your template because I can really see the benefit in using Bonsai to manage all of my activities.

    Thanks,
    Andrew

  217. Tigger

Hi, I am a reader from China.
I am new to GTD and Bonsai.
I read a lot docs about them and the more I read, the more I like them.
Now I want to pratise it and I am very interesting in your template.
Would you please send your template to me.
    Thank you!

  218. Robert Andersen

I’m enjoying reading this forum. Please send your template.

    Hello Fox,
I have been using Bonsai for a couple of years now (on a PC and a Palm). But still I am convinced that there are better ways using it. Your template seems to be one of those ways.
So could you please send me a copy? Thank you in advance.

  222. Janice

Hi, I’ve been a heavy Datebook5/6 user for years who has dabbled in Bonsai & LifeBalance, but half-abandoned both. I’ve been very slowly implementing GTD (for years) & would love to try your template so I can stop dithering & tweaking & actually throw myself into a system & Get Things Done! Could you please send your template? Thanks.

  223. Haimar

I am a huge bonsai fan and glad to found this nice article… I would love to try your template.

    Thanks - H.S.

  224. Frank

Hello there….I’ve just started to use Bonsai and have been trying to grasp the outline that Stuart has shared. It is obviously quite thorough but also difficult to fully comprehend. Thanks for the offer to share your template, I am looking forward to receiving it.

    Regards, Frank

  225. Pedja

    Hi Fox,

An interesting solution. I would love to see what you have done with it since your post on Bonsai forum. I’ve been trying to use Outlook for the same purpose, using a custom naming convention to associate actions and projects, but the lack of ability to create task hierarchies makes it difficult to use Outlook as a serious time management tool. So, I am back to looking for another solution. Bonsai and Treo might be the ticket.

    Thanks and cheers,

    Pedja

  226. Till Ewertz

    please send me your teplate.

  227. Michael

Your Outline looks very interesting! Can you send to me please?
    Michael

    Hi Fox

Thanks for the blog. Cool! And your template looks interesting. Would love to see it.

    TIA

  229. Eric Burton

I’d like a copy of the template, too. Thanks.

  230. Kai Schmidt

    Hi Fox,

i like your idea with Bonsai, please send me your template.

    Regards

    Kai

  231. Christian

    Your system looks very interesting.

    Please send me your template.

  232. Ron Earnest

I bought Bonsai but have not used it. I would like to create a simple structure: Name of outline: U.S. v. Anybody #07-123; pleadings with deadline alerts; discovery with room for comments; correspondence; defense notes; trial preparation: opening, witnesses/crossexamination; witnesses direct examination; evidence; demonstrative evidence; jury instructions; closing.

Did I mention that I am a trial lawyer? Can I have a copy of your template? Any suggestions on how to learn to use the program?

    Thanks, Ron

  233. Prasanth

i would like to see your template. thanks

  234. Mike

If it wouldn’t be too much trouble, I would love a copy of your template. I’m a big Bonsai user and am eager to take a look at this. Thanks so much.

  235. baddog8it

Can you send me your template please.

  236. Owen Schultz

I’d like to try your template also please. Thanks.

  237. Kidordinn

    Nice work
I would love to try your template.

    Best Regards

  238. Stephen

Hi Fox, could you send me a copy of your template too! Thanks.

Can you send me your template too please.

  240. Niall

Looks easier than my current GTD system with Bonsai.

I’d like a copy of your template as well, thank you.

  241. David Solomon

I’d like a copy of your GTD template please. Thanks…!

  242. Guillaume

  244. Romain

Please send me a copy of your template. Looks very interesting.

  245. David Prewitt

Please send me a copy of your template. I’ve tried using Bonsai for GTD in the past without much success. Thanks in advance.

  246. Rick Sperko

Would you please send a copy of the template. I cannot find a link to download it. Thank you.

  247. Tim Carry

I like the elegant simplicity of the approach. Some of the approaches have needed a manual larger than Bonsai’s.

    Thanks,

    TC

  248. tejiv

Yes, I’d be interested in your template for Bonsai that implements GTD.

    Thanks,

    tejiv

  249. Von

Could you send me a copy of your template for GTD

    Thanks

  250. ugi

    Thanks,

    ugi

  251. Mike

Please send me a copy of the template for the Bonsai palm T/X

  252. Linda Weldon

I took your advice and have downloaded the trial of Bonsai.
Can you send me your template so that I can implement some of your ideas. Thank you for sharing.

  253. Randy

I’ve seen many GTD templates but none that look so simple to implement. Most of the time the GTD implementations are very complex and difficult to follow. I would like to see more of this to determine if is truly this easy.

  254. Dan

    Hi
I’m still trying to get GTD to work better on my Palm. Would you please send me your template for Bonsai? Thanks

    Dan

  255. Pascal Venier

I would be very interested in trying this template and would be most grateful if you could tell me how to go about downloading it.

    Many thanks in advance,

  256. JackLE

  257. Portsmouth

Sounds promising. I’m curious to see if the Zoom works on my little Zire 31. Please send me the template.

  258. Rob

I have been using Bonsai for a while, but would like to see your implementation in more depth. Please send me the template.

    Thanks.

  259. Adam

I currently use Bonsai for GTD myself and am always looking for a better implementation than what I’m using. I’d like a copy of your template.

  260. Rhino

Hi, could you send me a copy of the template too - it sounds awesome.

  261. MyName

I’m intrigued. I would love a GTD implementation where I don’t have to analize how to set up a system of systems to get things done. I just want to be able to note what I want to do, see when it needs to get done, be able to view and analyze on the fly, do what needs to get done and track it until it gets done.

If you have distilled the essence of GTD while harnassing the power of Bonsai…I’m all for it!

So…I would love a copy of your template!

    Thanks

  262. Keith C

Please send me a copy of your template.

    Thanks

  263. Iván Rivera

    Hello Fox.

Good to know about you after the end of X files!!!

Could you please send me a copy of your template?

    Thanks

  264. Julian Gray

I would like to try your template. Does it also work on a T3?

  265. julian

I have purchased Bonsai, and have been struggling for some time now to get it just right - and failing…

Any fresh ideas would be a fantastic!

    Thanks

  266. Rose

    Hi Fox

Great stuff! I am fairly new to GTD and very new to Bonsai. I’ve been using PlanPlus for years for my time management but since the latest release have been having major synching problems. I’m now ready to move away from this and start a new system - Bonsai sounds like it could be perfect! Please send me the template.

    Many thanks
    Rose

PS What do you mean the X-Files has ended, we still have it in Australia :)

  267. Fox

I guess they have different time schedules down under.

  268. Mike

Hey Fox, could I please get a copy of that template as well, looks superb!!

  269. Brian

I’d be very interested in receiving a copy of your GTD template for Bonsai. Thanks.

  270. Mark

Thanks for great tutorial - Please send copy of template.

  271. Steve Peterson

I’ve been using GTD here in the UK for a couple of years but this looks like the best way of intergrating yet! Please forward your template. Many thanks

  274. Kai-Uwe Beyer

    Hello,
thank you very very much for this hard work you’ve putted in this great Template.
I try using the GTD Method since four month. I’m using a lot of categories and project outlines for applying the Method using Bonsai until now. But today i found your webside with the great video tutorial about a smooth GTD Bonsai Template.
Please let me try testing it.

    Thank you for this work.

    Kai

  275. Michiel

  277. Keith

  278. Priya

Stumbled across this looking for ways to utilise GTD, bonsai and Datebk. Am v. interested in the outline you’re proposing. Thanks for the videos too - thought I knew how to use Bonsai, but learnt a lot more today.

  279. Jens

    Hi Fox,
the videos are very good and I’m interested in the templates.
Please could you send them to me…
    Thanks!

  280. Jens

  283. Michael

    Good day,

I have been reading your posts, and I watched the videos. I am very interested in implamenting this GTD for Bonsai. I have been using Bonsai since the first release (along with Daynotez). Would you be willing to send me a copy of your template? I think it would be a great tool to add to my arsinal.

    Thanks,

    MIchael

  284. Vlar

Thank you for your contribution to the cause! I have been fumbling/implemting GTD with the T5/Bonsai for a bit now and would be very interested in checking out your template for a fresh new look at it.

  285. David B

If still available, a copy of your template would be welcome. Thanks!

  286. Luc Ferland

    Hi,

Very interesting and usefull infos. I would like to have a copy of your template.

    Thanks

    Luc

  287. Mike D

I’d like to try out your GTD template. Please send a copy.

    Thanks,

    Mike

  288. Scott

Nice Videos although the last one gave me a problem by playing a different video to your audio. Weird. .If you can stand another request for the templates I would appreciate them as well.

    Thanks.

  289. mark c

Like Michael above, I’ve been a big supporter of Natara since their beginnings. Excellent software and super support. I have used GTD off and on - well, off for the last two years or so. I’m re-reading Allen’s book and re-implementing a system. I would enjoy working with your template and seeing how it fits into my system. Thanks and cheers.

    mc

  290. Tord L

Have looked at your 3 videos and the systems looks very interesting. Would be very glad if I could get your template and try out the system.

    Thanks in advance,
    Tord

  291. Enoch

I didn’t like the way Contexts were created.
    Here’s the way I did:

  292. Bob

    Hi Fox,

You have done an amazing job with this GTD Bonsai System!

I would also appreciate it a lot if you would send the template to me.

    Thanks!

  293. Robin

Hey, I tried Bonsai a year or two ago and it didn’t work well for me but I am willing to give it a try again. :) Would love to try your template.

    Thanks for sharing.

  294. Fox

    291. Enoch. I don’t understand and I think it may be a language reading thing. It seems your system is more project based. I may be more context based. I can have as many contexts as I want and see all actions within that context - project related or not.

I think it is fine if you adopt your system for a more project centered approach but I don’t want to use filters, comments, or keywords for managing my contexts in order to keep it simple and zoomable.

  295. Ken Green

I’ve used both DayNotez and Bonsai for awhile. They have always been on the periphery of my GTD system.

Your Bonsai-GTD implementation is very interesting. Please send me your template and sign me up for your newsletter.

  296. Michael Luth

    Hi:

I found your blog about GTD and the Palm, which lead me to Bonsai. I’ve got the trial edition and am already planning to buy. And thanks for the videos, they’re very helpful. Also, I would love to try your template.

    Thanks,
    Michael

  297. iFacon

Looks interesting. Please email the GTD template.

    Great work on the videos.

    Thanks.

  298. Jason

I just found your blog from a link on PalmAddicts and I am very impressed with how you’re using Bonsai. I am always trying to find a solid system to implement GTD and I think you may have hit the nail on the head. I would love to stop creating and actually put it to use.

    Thanks,
    Jason

  299. Fox

Oh, I am so sorry Jason. There is no cure for creating. You’ll only just learn to do it less. :-) Hopefully this will help.

  300. Tonya

Hi. I would like to get a copy of your template — always looking for ways to use Bonsai more efficiently

    thanks

  301. Michael

impressive. I’d like to try it. Does it work on older versions of Bonsai?

  302. RoyD

Please send me the template thanks - this may mean I actually GTD rather than only mess with the system to GTD !

  303. George Dumas

Hey Fox — okay you’ve got my curiosity running rampant. Been reading your blog via Bloglines. I’m a long time Palm (Pilot Professional through Treo 700p) user. I recently implemented GTD using Datebk6 and have found that it has improved my ability to GTD. But, the outline structure seems like a logical next step although my tendency to spend too much time trying out new things has me concerned. But what the heck, let me have a go! Thanks,

    George

  304. Patrick Hamlett

Please send your Bonsai GTD outline.

  305. Hein Hoek

Hi. I would like to get a copy of your template.
Comments will follow later, when GPD/Bonsai instllled, implemented and understood.
    Yours,
    Hein

  306. Mike

V ery nice job, you can add me to the list of seekers, looking forward to the day when I actually get something done. Your nice system may help do the trick. I would appreciate a copy of the template, and thanks very much for your generosity.

    Sincerely,
    Mike

  307. Noah

Please send me your template. Thanks for the work.

  308. Em

I’d love to see this - thanks so much for sharing.

  309. Werner

Your presentation aroused my interest, so I downloaded the palm application. I look forward to your template as well.

Thank you for sharing your work,
    Werner

  310. Don

Thanks for the tutorials. I am new to this and it looks very powerful.

  311. Andrew

Great videos! I love my Sony Clie` for it’s 13mm thinness and 320×480 screen, but it doesn’t have a D pad. It has a jog wheel and page up/down buttons on the back. I can use the jog wheel select to expand/collapse, but couldn’t figure out how to get the page up/down buttons to do anything.

  312. Fox

I don’t use a clie but I completely understand your love of
its form factor and features which I think were ahead of its
time. There are options called “Jog Wheel Scroll by page”
and options for “Jog select” under the “Nav” tab in Global
settings. I am not sure what they do or how they might help
you but hopefully this will point you in the right direction.

  313. Laura Maxwell

I would appreciate the template. Let’s get our money’sworth out of Bonsai!

  314. Cedric D. Brown

I would like a copy of your GTD template to use with Bonsai. I will make additional comments once I have a better understanding of how Bonsai works.

  315. Jace C Beck

I am new to Bonsai and would also like to try your template. Thanks for the information…

  316. Jan Gundtofte-Bruun

Hi, I’d be interested in your template. I’m already using a setup of my own, but find myself somewhat limited by the categories.

I’m interested to see if your use of Contact as a free-text field is workable on a large scale (since there’s no typeahead, and the selection feature of that field frankly sucks).

Being impatient, I found a copy of your template somewhere online and had a look. There are quite a few typos, so I hope the “official” version is better. :-) No offense intended.

Fox - Thank you for pointing this out just updated this on July 4th - All future outlines will be updated. Also there is the 2.0 version - Coming soon. Everyone who already got a template will be updated automatically

I like your calm pace in the videos, but could use a lot more detail in setting up those filters. (Hmm, maybe in the Natara forums… I frequent GTDP@Yahoo, but not Natara so much… will take a look.)

Anyway, thanks for putting this “out there”!

    Jan

  317. Rob

Hi, I am a longtime fan of Bonsai and tried to do my implementation of GTD on it. I think you have outdone me my a wide margin, looking at the videos. Could you send me a copy? Thanks

  318. Harlan

Your template sounds good. Yes..I’d like to get a copy of it to check out. Thanks!

  319. Rod

Hello. I’m interested in receiving and checking out the GTD Bonsai template. Please send me the link or file. Thanks!

  320. Marky Mark

Your video tutorials look great, I’ve recently bought a palm tungsten e2 on the cheap, just for this purpose. I’d be interested in seeing your templates.

  321. Boris Zalewski

Well, I don’t know if I may ask for the template that late after presentation but I would really enjoy giving it a try because I bought bonsai only for GTD. thx a lot

  322. Graeme Summers

    Hi Fox,

I’m interested in your GTD system using bonsai.

    Please send me your template.

    Cheers

Please send me a copy of your Bonsai GTD template.

    Thank you,

    Flavio

  324. Thomas Brent

Trying to figure out if I should purchase Bonsai. I have been using GTD with Outlook, but I am interested in expanding my horizons. Could you send me your template?

  325. Em

This is terrific - I’ve played with this to see how it will work for me. With a bit of tweaking - I think it’s gonna!! So thank.
One question. I love the idea of using the Contact laterally. However, what I’d like to know is how to configur so that the drop down list on Palm corresponds to Desktop. Currently, Palm shows the real Contact list.

Fox - I believe this is a desktop specific thing that is not able to reproduced on the handheld

  326. Bob Deskin

I’ve just started reading about Getting Things Done, but I’ve been using a Palm for over 7 years and Bonsai for almost that long. I have tended to use Bonsai for long check lists and planning, but not as a ToDo system. I watched the first video and am intrigued. Please send me your template. I’d like to have it handy as I go through the book.

    Regards

    Bob Deskin

  327. Peter Bulthuis

I don’t know if this is mentioned earlier. But in your video you said about a workaround using the D-pad centre button for opening notes. This is also possible with a Treo 650. But you have to push the option button when you push the centre button.

  328. Caryl Brent

My husband got me interested in Bonsai. Could you also send me an outline template of how you use it with GTD.

  329. MamaImp

Could I get you to send me a copy of that template too, please?

    Thank you.

  332. daffad

Thanks for great tutorial - Please send copy of template.

  333. Tammy Cravit

I’m definitely interested in receiving a copy of your template. I’ve looked at a few other Bonsai/GTD systems, but have found them all too heavyweight and “fiddly” for my liking.

    Thanks!
    Tammy

  334. Andrey

    Hi, Fox

You have done nice work! Can you please send me your template as well? Thank you in advance.

    Andrey.

    Hello Fox,

would you be so kind as to send me the template.

    Many Thanks
    Mathias

  337. Huds

Looks good. I gave up on using Bonsai for GTD because the filters, keywords and categories were getting too unwieldy. Can’t wait to see the template.

  338. bonzainewb

nice work. Can I get a copy of the Bonsai template?

    Thanks,

  339. Simon Young

I’ve been struggling to successfully get an electronic GTD system going with Windows Mobile - I’ve had a paper system for 2 years or so. Having just bought my first Palm (an E2), I’d be interested to see if your template can help me get a digital GTD going.

I’m off to buy Bonsai. Look forward to receiving your template.

  340. Volker

Hi Fox, I just started with GTD and I am using Bonsai yor years now, and I like it very much (I mean both). I primary use the desktop version. It would be great if you send me your template for GTD.

Nice job! I’ve been using Shadow for similar purposes but I’m not so happy with the desktp which is where I live 70% of the time.

I’ll have a go with Bonsai, would you be so kind to send me your template?

    Many thanks in advance

  344. m3kp

    Nick

  355. Mark R

Approximately when will GTD Bonsai v 2.0 be available?

Fox: I’m working on it. Hopefully before the month is out and I have some other things in between that time.

  356. Eric

Splendid job on the tutorial videos. Could you send me your template please?

  357. Dan Healy

Hey Fox- I’m new to GTD, and have given both Shadow Plan & Life Balance a try, but just read about Bonsai here and on the strength of your recommendation, I’m giving it a try now, too (build 2416 for Vista). Anyhow, I’d love to give the template a try too- thanks!

    Thank you very much indeed.

I would appreciate a copy of the Bonsai GTD template. I am a mac user… is there a way to use the template without first installing it on a PC and then syncing?

Unfortunately, theres isn’t any way that I know of. Your best bet is to have someone beam the template to you.

  369. Alan Taylor

Hi - I’d like to give your template a try.

    - Alan

  384. Chris Crifasi

I gotta have one of those outlines!!

  391. James

Hi. Thanks for the tips. Appreciate the template.

  392. Ilya

Hi Fox! I use the Bonsai already for a long time. And I find it very useful and most powerful organized software for Palm platform (and not only). All our attempts to organize the information on world around encounter its multidimensionality. And tree-view is most visual representation form, where multidimensional emulated by multilevel. But what first and what second level? I permanently think about this and permanently restructuring my Bonsai files! Because I deal with many projects, events and contacts in my work. Thank your for this idea!! I’m very interested in checking out your GTD template.

    Thanks,
    Ilya.

  393. Moe

    Hello,
Thank you for sharing this with all of us.
I’ve been using bonsai, for the past few years, and really enjoyed it. however, I know I have still yet to use it to its FULL potential!
I’ve also known about and somewhat implemented GTD… not as successful as I would like to be. and I have a Treo 680, which I am increasingly enjoying! (it’s productive value and use!)
I don’t remember how, but I stumbled onto your blog here, and now am greatly interested and curious about your bonsai gtd outline template! it’s like the amalgamation or sythesis of several concepts at once!
I look forward to testing it out! Thank you for sharing this!
    Take care.

  422. Patrik Gadler

I have been using Bonsai quite a while, also för GTD. But I would really like to see Your outline.

  478. David

    template please! thanks!

  479. Miles

Very interesting and well thought through. I’ve been using Bonsai for a couple of years for “sort-of” implementing GTD. I have never quite achieved the balance between all of the detail I typically plan at / try to dump into the system — and a high level simplicity that is required by the limited real estate on a Palm. I look forward to playing around with your template.

  480. jp

Please send GTD template. Would be much appreciated. Thanks
