Should Bonsai & Outlook collaborate? Weigh in here!

Natara and BonsaiThis is something that was mentioned by at least 2 people in the comments section for the GTD Bonsai Template. It occured to me that I should put a survey, but just to start things off in a simpler way I thought I would measure responses with this post. The comment sections of a post are perfect for gathering public opinion. I invite you to weigh in on this if this topic is something you are interested in. Maybe if enough people do this it will send a message to the powers that be who may in their infinite wisdom look upon this with careful consideration. Maybe some of you would even have some suggestions for how to get them to work together.

What does it mean to have them work together?
For those of you who are looking for this functionality I believe a key question is what does it look like to have these 2 programs collaborate. Are you talking about contacts, calendars, tasks, memos, and email? Are you talking about certain parts of Outlook such as the tasks section? Are you talking about being able to extract snippets of text from the info that comes in through email. Would info in Bonsai or Outlook overwrite the information in the other or syncrhonize? What do you mean when you talk about the intergration with Outlook?

I actually stopped years ago syinching Outlook with any third-party software. I was not pleased with the result, to say the least. However, a Bonsai/Outlook sync may get me interested enough to get back to using a third party app with Outlook. I use both apps daily so, it may be the perfect marriage for increasing productivity.

I’m not a fan of Outlook, but if anything happened to the continued availablity of Palm OS devices, I’d really hate to give up Bonsai and Datebook 5 just because they didn’t work with MS.

I guess that is a guarded yes.

I love Bonsai and use Outlook. I keep a detailed to do list in Bonsai and sync through a Palm Pilot to Outlook. I would love to directly sync to the Outlook Task folder.

But then I would also like to be able to create Tasks and Appointments and have them automatically sync in to Outlook’s Journal. I can’t understand why Microsoft has never created such a bridge.

I don’t care as long as Bonsai can still work with other apps. I don’t use, and never will,Outlook

I use Outlook because it is common it standard in my company (a “large one”). I encountered the power of outlook (it is much more than an email-client). with jello-dashboard I am able to work GTD-like using projects and contexts. This is all based on tags which are linked to categorys in palms todo db. with bonsai the 15-category limit would no more exist. If you compare outlooks todo with bonsai you will find many matchings fields.

My opinion: yes, for me it is on my whishlist!
